Judy Shiprack has lived in Multnomah County District 3 for thirty years, and her dedication and commitment to the community can be seen in her career as a lawyer, teacher, and advocate.

Most recently Director of the Public Safety Coordinating Council of Multnomah County, she served three terms as a State Representative from Southeast Portland and is a former Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney. She directed the not-for-profit affordable housing group, LINK Community Development Corporation for over 10 years.

Shiprack, whose name formerly was Bauman, has the experience to work effectively advancing her priorities. These include increasing health care access for seniors, children and other vulnerable populations; working with schools on crime prevention; making more drug and alcohol treatment available; holding criminals accountable; and supporting cost effective, coordinated, public safety planning. Multnomah County has a long list of critical capital investments that must be made in the near future to keep our community economically healthy. These include bridge and transportation construction, repair, and maintenance, the construction of a new East Side Justice Center in Gresham, and the construction of a new Downtown Courthouse. While these programs are all possible, they must be undertaken with a sense of balance, with fair and open discussion of alternatives, and in a manner that builds confidence in the process of government.

Shiprack will bring important knowledge of the State Legislative process, as well as seasoned negotiating and relationship skills, which will help Multnomah County regain both its voice in advancing statewide policy as well as its fair share of the tax dollars that Multnomah County residents send to Salem.

Public safety has been a primary focus for Shiprack since she served as a Deputy District Attorney in the early 1980s. As a member of the Judiciary Committee of the House for three legislative sessions she led the way to obtaining strict drug enforcement statutes, as well as in efforts to create more treatment and prevention to stop the cycle of drug abuse. She has provided creative team leadership at the Public Safety Council for smarter ways to stop property crimes through intervening with the addictions that drive not only these crimes but also play a big part in the community tragedy of child neglect and abuse.

District #3's geographical boundaries are 1-84 on the North and Clackamas County on the South. It extends as far West as NE 33rd Avenue, and East as far as 148th.
